Alexander McQueen - Savage Beauty

I have always loved Alexander McQueen, I remember basing my GCSE Textiles final project on McQueen's 2007 SS collection. Ever since I have had an obsession with his revolutionary craftsmanship. I have turned to his work again throughout my degree and referenced him in so many of my essays and projects.

So as you can imagine, I was more than excited to find out that Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty was going to be on exhibition in London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.
The display showcases the life, work and legacy of the iconic British fashion designer. Four years after it’s original showcase in New York, McQueen’s legacy is back on home turf in it’s rightful home, London. McQueen often made reference to the city saying “London is where I was brought up. It’s where my heart is and where I get my inspiration.”

The V&A hosted a glamorous gala night in honor of the long-awaited opening of the exhibition. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, David and Victoria Beckham, Poppy Delevingne and FKA Twigs were among the guests who attended.

Kate Moss also took to the stage during the night, recreating the iconic dance she performed at the McQueen ‘Black Show’ back in June 2004. Wearing the same flowing floor-length McQueen gown, she danced enchantingly along with a group of Michael Clarke dancers.

The exhibition explores the themes McQueen portrayed throughout his designs with reference to the contrast between light and dark, and life and death paying attention to McQueen’s exquisite tailoring and detail. The exhibition is open to the public until August 2nd 2015 - I would not recommend missing it!
